Do you have Skills? • TRANSFERRABE SKILLS EXERCISE • Describe a time when… Description • …you committed your enthusiasm and energy to a specific project/job • …you stood up for yourself and stated what you wanted • …you participated in team sports, groups, or organizations • …you designed, created, built, made, fixed up something that gave you a sense of satisfaction. Tell why you felt good about it… • …you successfully overcame some difficulty/s or barrier/s • … when someone praised, acknowledged or counted on you for something

  9. Costs of Hiring • Writing script of job posting • Posting the placement (newspaper, Internet etc.) • Reviewing Documents (cover letters/resumes) • Interviewing

  10. Costs of losing an employee • Training – minimum of 2 salaries over an extended period of time • Minimum of 3 years to recuperate those costs • Confidential information

It’s NOT about you! • How many “I’s” are in your Cover letter? • Purpose of a Cover Letter… • It’s ALL about the business!!!!! • How can you fix their problem? • Does your resume give them what they’re asking for? Or is it all about you? • Purpose of the resume… • Follow the job posting and you will accomplish what you’ve set out to do… get the interview!
