As part of the DISD elementary health curriculum, the school nurses present information each year on hygiene and the physical and emotional changes associated with puberty. We believe that you, as parents and caregivers, have the most significant role in teaching your children about these important health issues. We offer this review of materials prior to our classes to reinforce that concept. All of our elementary student sessions are conducted with boys and girls separately to minimize any chance of embarrassment, and to provide a supportive atmosphere for questions after the presentation. In some of our schools, the boys’ presentations are given by a male teacher, administrator, or physician. If not already indicated below, the school nurse will send an additional note home prior to each campus presentation so you will be aware of your child’s scheduled class. This preview is a great opportunity to meet your child’s school nurse and see for yourself the positive, healthy manner in which the programs are presented. Please note, there will be no accommodations for children; please make your own childcare arrangements. Previews usually last for less than one hour.
