  1. COMPANIES ARE INVITED TO APPLY AS HOST EMPLOYERS FOR THE MQA PRACTICAL TRAINING SCHEME The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) for the Mining and Minerals Sector in terms of the Skills Development Act no. 97 of 1998. The MQA is inviting Mining Companies to be Host Employers to MQA candidates who require practical training or vacation work in the following disciplines: It will be required of Host Employers to give the candidates structured work experience over a one year period for a national diploma candidate or two months for candidates requiring vacation work. The candidate must complete a structured Portfolio of Evidence which is outlined by the university and students should be able to meet all the requirements for both parts of their practical training component of their studies (P1 and P2). Candidates requiring vacation work should be assigned relevant projects according to the University requirements. The MQA will pay a substantial grant per candidate supported to the host company, which should be used to cover the costs for allowances, accommodation, meals, training, coaching and mentoring, medical cover, insurance cover, personal protective clothing and any other costs incurred by the host Employer. A guideline for the programme is available. Host Employers will be selected on the basis of training and development infrastructure, sufficiently experienced coaches and mentors and willingness to work within the MQA guidelines.
