2. Table of contents • WE are going to talk about: • What does application software stand for? • What are some types of application software? • What are the uses of each of these application software? • How does application software affect the user’s experience on a computer?

3. What is an application software? • An application software is all the computer software that makes a computer perform useful tasks that are beyond the running of the computer itself. • In another sense, application software (also called end user programs) are the software that sits on top of system software since they are unable to run without an operating system and system utilities. • Examples of application software would be database programs, word processors, web browsers and spreadsheets.

4. Word processing • A Word processor is a computer software application that performs the composition, editing, formatting and sometimes the printing of written materials. • Typical features in a word processing application would be fonts, spell check, grammar check, built in thesaurus, auto-correct, Web integration and HTML exporting.

5. Word processing • Usage of word processing application: • Business • Business will tend to have their own format and style for the usage of word processing. Thus, various types of layout editing and similar capabilities would be needed. • Home • Word processing at home tends to be education, planning, or dealing with assignments or work. Literature • Novelists, poets, playwrights, screenwriters, naturally gravitated towards word processing once the technology became available. They are able to create and publish materials much faster via the printing option.

Desktop publishing • Desktop publishing (DTP), is the creation of documents using page layout skills on a personal computer. • DTP can generate layouts and produce typographic quality text and images comparable to traditional typography and printing. • Desktop publishing methods can produce a wide variety of materials, from menus to magazines and books, without the expense of commercial printing.

7. Presentation software (PowerPoint) • A presentation program is a software that is used to display information in the form of slideshow. There are three main functions in a presentation software: • An editor that allows text to be inserted and formatted • A method for inserting and manipulating graphic images, • A slide-show system to display the content. • Examples will be like: • Apple keynote • Microsoft Powerpoint • Prezi • Google Docs.

8. video editing applications • Video editing software is an application software that handles the post-production video editing of digital video sequences on a computer. • This video editing software is also known as non-linear editing system (NLE), where it provides a timeline interface paradigm where sections of moving image video recordings, known as clips, are laid out in sequence. • NLE offers trimming, splicing, cutting and arranging clips across the timeline. They also include features such as color manipulation, titling and visual effects, as well as making audio synchronized with the video image sequence.

Photo editing applications • Image editing is the process of altering images, whether they are digital, traditional photochemical, or illustrations. • Graphic software programs, have the ability to manipulate, enhance, and transform images. Many image editing programs are also used to render or create computer art from scratch. • Some of the photo editing software are: • Adobe photoshop • Iphoto • Photo booth.

10. Music Development • A digital audio editor is a computer application for audio editing, such as manipulating digital audio. Such editors are designed to use with music for the following: • Record audio from one or more inputs and store recordings in the computer’s memory as digital audio. • Edit start, stop and duration time of any sound on the audio’s timeline. • Apply filters, including compression, expansion, flanging, reverb, audio noise reduction and equalizations. • Conversion between different audio file formats. • Mix multiple sound sources/tracks, combine them at various volume levels and pan from channel to channel.

11. Website development • An HTML editor, also known as a website development program, is used to create web pages. HTML editor not only works with HTML, but also with related technologies such as CSS, XML and Javascript. HTML editors can be split into text, object and WYSIWYG(what you see is what you get) editors: • Text editors use HYML to provide syntax highlighting. Templates, toolbars and keyboard shortcuts may quickly insert common HTML structures. Requires user understanding of CSS and javascript. • Object editors allow alternate editing of source text of objects in more visually organized modes than color highlighting. • WYSIWYG provide an editing interface which resembles how the page will be displayed in a web browser. These editors may be stand-alone programs, such as Dreamweaver, or in browser extensions. This is the easiest form of website development editor software.

12. How does application software affect the user’s experience on a computer? • Computer application is basically the main, vital components for operating computers as you see them today. Without application software, your computer would be virtually useless. Any program that you use on top of the operating system is an application software and it can be used to complete different sort of tasks for different types of people. • Like medical software to help out the medical industry, or business software to help a business keep information and run smoother. Even educational software, like those games you can get to help your children out with math. There are tons of games out there that requires these software.
