  4. A Brief History of Amen • Ancient Hebrew word usually transliterated into other languages. • Meaning: to make firm, to found, to prop up, to build, to support, to confirm. • Usual usage in the Bible: verily, surely, indeed, truly, so be it.

  5. First occurrence: • Numbers 5:22 -- May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells and your thigh wastes away. " " 'Then the woman is to say, "Amen. So be it."

  6. Amen in Biblical Application • To grant affirmation to significant doctrine • Deuteronomy 27:16-26 – (26) "Cursed is the man who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"
