  1. Modeling and software development to implement in a real case study PREPARED BY: mohammad Khalil amarne shareef daowd Sobhi kharoub ala’a qeshta Yazan dyab Solution of a trim loss problem

  2. INTRODUCTION • This project aims to reduce waste in manufacturing processes that involve cutting processes. The one-dimensional cutting stock or trim problem arises in cutting short units from long ones. In this project, the objectives are to fill demand with as little stock as possible, to reduce trim waste.

  3. An optimization model has been developed as a solution to a specific industrial problem in the Aluminum industry. This was achieved using optimization technique (integer linear programming). This model ensures optimal allocation of resources and reduces waste to minimum (trim loss). Dedicated software for this problem has been developed to provide a user-friendly interface.

  4. Project Methodology: • Initial investigation of the problem in literature. • Initial investigation of the problem in practice (industrial visits). • Initial literature review on the general existing method and solutions. • Develop a initial framework. • Data gathering to validate the framework. • .

  5. Modifications to generate a model. • Apply the model in real case. • Develop software to facilitate the implementations. • Present to industry. • The main outputs of this project: • A detailed report that document the findings from research in literature and

  6. practice. • A model to support the decision making in stock cutting. • A customized software system based on theoretical and practical requirements

  7. Manual solution • We started our work to get the possibilities of the solution with manual solution to gather the date that we want the data is the possibilities that we can cut the 575 cm rod with the combination of the 9 cuts:

  8. LP_SOLVER: • LP_SOLVER has allotted of features in-house. For a beginner, it can be difficult to determine where to start. The distribution contains many files and to start with, you need only a couple of them. As you learn the package you may need extras. This text explains how to start with LP_SOLVER.

  9. Initial analysis: • We saw in the previous chapter how we get the equations and what are the processes that we did to achieve a complete equations in order to be added to the LPSOLVER that will be executed to generate the result that we are looking for but what is this answer used for or why we want to get the optimize solution.

  10. Conclusion: • We faced some problems first when we visited the factories like when we visited the sponge factory they did not welcome us because they do not want anyone to look at their technology and then we went to the carton factory the problem there was they do not have specific way to cut the material and the product is customized depends on the customer order and the demand is always changing.
