Communities Sub-group • Re-established March 2004 • Reports to Glasgow City Addictions PIG • A partnership: services / organisations / drug & alcohol forums / voluntary & community sector / user involvement / family support • Aim: ‘Protecting our communities from drug and alcohol related crime and antisocial behaviour’ • Alcohol Development Worker (March 06) and Alcohol Initiatives Fund

  7. GRAND week • Took place September 2007 and 2008 • Aims: • Raise awareness • Get communities involved • Build partnerships and networks • 3 elements: city centre showcase; area events; local activities • Formal evaluation

Organisation, Co-ordination and Funding • GRAND Week Steering group; city centre programme; communications • Local steering groups x 5 • Budget c.£55k • Local Grants Scheme (£15k) • Area Event Awards (£10k) • City Centre Showcase (£12.5k) • Promotions and publicity (£17.5k) • Evaluation (£10k)

Achievements • Consistent messages (Glasgow and local view) • Information exchange (funding, policy, practice) • Resource sharing • Networking / Building partnerships • Tackle discrimination / reduce stigma • Research (The Ripple Effect) • Develop and promote opportunities • Mutual support • Funding: approx £400k direct to forums/groups (plus £160k development/support)

  10. Outcomes? Enable communities that promote: • Recovery • Receptiveness • Responsiveness • Rehabilitation • Regeneration
