  2. Our solar system is a collection of nine planets and their moon is orbit • Around the sun, together with smaller bodies such as asteroids, meteors • and comets.

  3. VENUS • The second planet of the solar system, almost equal in size to earth and orbiting 108 million km from the sun. • Was known to the Greeks as Hesperus and phosphorus-the morning star and the evening star. Surface temperature is 482 degree Celcius.

  4. MERCURY • It is the innermost planet of the solar system somewhat daimeter is 4,878 Km there is no atmosphere nor does it have any satellite its day time temperature average is 179 degree c.

  5. EARTH It is the third closet planet to the sun and hence one natural satellite the moon. It has an equatorial radius of 6,378 km. Earth, which is three quarters covered by oceans, has a dense atmosphere of nitrogen and oxygen.

  6. MARS The fourth planet in order of distance from the sun with an orbit lying between that of the earth and Jupiter, a rocky body 6,796 km in diameter. Red in colour, clearly visible to the naked eye. There are two small satellites Phobos and Deimos.

  7. JUPITER Largest planet of the solar system. Equatorial diameter 143,800 km. it has a dense atmosphere with swirling clouds Of ammonia and methane, thin system of rings, a retinue with at-least 16 moons.

  8. SATRUN A ringed planet of the solar system, sixth in distance from the sun with a mean orbital radius of 1,427 million km. it has a dense hydrogen-rich atmosphere, and 15moons.

  9. URANUS The seventh of the major planets, the first planet to be discovered through the telescope by wiliamherschel in 1781.

  10. NEPTUNE The third largest of the planets, most distant along the giant planets of the solar system, orbiting the sun at a distance of almost four and a half thousand million km. it was discovered in 1846 by J.G. Galle. It has eight moons.

  11. PLUTO The ninth planet of the solar system discovered in 1930 by Tombaugh diameter about 2,500 km-small body. It was discovered in 1978 and has one satellite-Charon.
