(No, it did not do what you are thinking!) British Impressment- pressing or forcing people to serve in the army or navy. It was to stop British impressments, by banning trade with foreign countries, but it hurt the U.S. merchants more than Britain. Stopped trade with Great Britain, France and their colonies to stop those nations from taking U.S. ships. End of Jefferson’s Presidency
