Residency by Investment in Portugal Program • The Portugal Golden Visa, introduced in 2012, was heavily promoted by the Portuguese government, and as a result, it has attracted many qualified foreign investors due to the program's flexibility and appealing benefits, such as low stay requirements and the option of acquiring citizenship through naturalization.  • To be eligible for the Portuguese investor visa program, the applicant must make a qualifying real estate investment of at least EUR 280,000. The residence by investment program is a five-year program in which the holder must stay in Portugal for at least seven days per year for the first five years.

What changes have been implemented? • Having successfully expanded the list of Visa-free countries, the government of Portugal has made it easier for holders of Portugal Golden Visa continue to enjoy Visa-free to all the Schengen Area member states.  • As of 2020, holders of Portuguese passport have visa-free access to 191 countries ranking the Portuguese passport on sixth place in the world.
