  2. Welcome Welcome to the third and fourth grade program! We are glad you are here. Tonight, the fourth graders are going to share what they have learned on their recorders, and the third graders are going to tell you some of what we have learned in class AND in music, PE, art and computer about continents around the world.

  3. Seven Continents • The Earth is mostly water. In fact, ¾ of the Earth is covered in water. The big bodies of water are called oceans. • The big pieces of land on Earth are called continents. There are seven continents: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia AND Antarctica

  4. North America • We live on the continent of North America. People came here from many other continents. • The USA, Mexico, and Canada are the three biggest countries in North America. • Basketball is a favorite sport. • The two songs we just sang: Sing, Sing, Sing and Chekimorenarepresent two of the languages spoken here.

  5. South America • South America is a warm continent with many countries. • People speak mostly Spanish and Portuguese. • The biggest country is Brazil, where people love to play soccer. • The Amazon rainforest is in South America. • Sambalele is a song from Brazil.

  6. Europe • There are 47 countries in Europe. • People speak over 50 different languages! • The weather in Europe is similar to North America. • Rugby is a favorite sport • Across the Atlantic Ocean is Ireland, where one of the most beautiful melodies in the world, Oh, Danny Boy, was created. • .

  7. Asia • Asia is the largest continent of all and India, Japan & China are the key countries in Asia. • Each country has its own language. • We can find many things at our stores that were made in India, Japan and China, even our school uniforms and our shoes…check your labels. • Cricket is a favorite sport on this continent. • This song from China, Shu ha ma, is a counting song.

  8. Australia • Australia is an island continent and the country has the same name as the continent. • Native people in Australia are called Aborigines • Australia is known for its kangaroos, didgeridoos, and The Great Barrier Reef. • Tennis is a favorite sport. • Waltzing Matilda is a well known song.

  9. Antarctica • Antarctica is the coldest continent. The only people who live there are the scientists from other countries who study the area. • Since there are no people groups, there are no songs to be sung and no flags to be hung. • In fact, the only singing in Antarctica are by George and Gracie. • Following this presentation, we will complete the trip around the continents with a journey to Africa!

  10. Africa • Africa is a very hot continent because the equator runs through the middle of it. • Most people in Africa have dark skin and hair. • Egypt is located in Africa. • Marathon running is a favorite sport. • Amani Utupe is Swahili for “grant us peace, give us courage.
