    1. Jerusalem Water Undertaking Energy prices and the effect on water sector

    2. Water Resources Water Purchased Water produced

    3. Water Purchased JWU daily water needs is 50000 m3/ day Available quantity is 42000 m3/day Population served is 330000 Number of customers is 550000 Deficit in water supply is 8000 m3/day Water availability from our own resources is 8000 m3/day Water purchased is 34000 m3/day

    4. Water Purchased Water purchased from 6 connections Bitunia connection is the biggest (32000 m3/day) Water price before pumping is 2.6 NIS/m3 Tow connections Hizma and Shu’afat , water price is 4.15 NIS/m3 (Jehoon)

    5. Water production Ein Samia well field is a sub-basin of the Eastern Basin Five wells were drilled in Ein Samia The area has a ground elevation of 415 masl Total discharge 8000 -9000 m3/day

    7. Well # 1 Drilled in 1962 Shallow well Recharged by yearly rainfall Heavy rain recharge the perch aquifer within 3 days Depth 60meter bgl Diameter is 2.5 meter Pump setting 52 meter bgl Two submersible pumps are working in the well Pump discharge is 170 m3/hour 120 m3/hr

    8. Well 2/a Drilled in 1964 and developed in 1994 Upper aquifer Depth 251 mbgl Pump setting 225 mbgl Diameter 14 “ Discharge 125 m3/hr Operating hours 14 hr/day

    9. Well # 3 Drilled in 1982 and developed in 1996 Lower aquifer Depth 529 mbgl Pump setting 357 mbgl Diameter 16 “ Discharge 173 m3/hr Operating hours 22 hr/day

    10. Well # 4 Drilled in 1990 and operated in 1994 Lower aquifer Depth 616 mbgl Pump setting 471 mbgl Diameter 16 “ Discharge 60 m3/hr Operating hours 10 hr/day Not working in these days

    11. Well # 6 Drilled in 1999 Lower aquifer Depth 580 mbgl Pump setting 350 mbgl Diameter 17 5/8 “ Discharge 220 m3/hr Operating hours 18 hr/day

    13. The difficulties in Meeting the Water demand JWU has a water deficit right now of 20% Each year the population increases by 3 % Internal emigration reaches 18% of the served population (Concentrated in Ramallah) Ministries and governmental institutions concentrated in Ramallah This increase the water demand by 10 %

    14. The difficulties in Meeting the Water demand Ein Samia production is very limited to Max. quantity of 10000 m3/day Purchased water is fixed Any additional purchased water depend on PWA negotiation with the Israelis There is no yearly automatic additional water JWU had applied for drilling more wells in Hizma area since 2002 The verbal approval submitted to JWU before two years The location of the borehole changed five times till now

    17. Well #1 Energy consumption is 40537 kwh/year Water production is 433493 m3/year Energy cost is 88317 NIS Average Energy consumption is 0.1 kwh/m3 Cost is 0.2 NIS/m3
