  1. 100 Most Endangered Species in The World By Chris Neyhart Niko Harris Ziwa Mukungu

  2. Importance? • 100 most endangered animals, fungi and plants around the world, were decided by 8,000 experts for the Zoological Society of London and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). • The report doesn't tell estimates of the cost of saving the 100 species, or does it tell the rank. The species are native to 48 countries. • The experts noted that the 100 species chosen are just a small part of the thousands of species that also face extinction.

  3. Why Should We Care? • The full list was published in a report titled "Priceless or Worthless?", which tries to push all the less valued creatures or species up the agenda. • There is a fear among some conservationists that many of the plants and fungi listed will not be saved or receive public attention because they don't help humans or because they aren’t pretty. • “Do these species have a right to survive or do we have a right to drive them to extinction?”Jonathan Baillie, Zoological Society of London

  4. How? • Loss of habitat, caused by a rising human population and other factors such as expanding cities, climate change, pollution and deforestation, are driving many more species of animals and plants to extinction. • Habitat loss and degradation affect 86% of all threatened birds, 86% of mammals and 88% of threatened amphibians. • People may have gone too far in the past few years in reviewing animals and plants by the economic value of the services they provide, including food, medicine or as tourist attractions.
