Code of Ethics – A Guide for Advocacy Standard 6.04 Social and Political Action • (a) Social workers should engage in social and political action that seeks to ensure that all people have equal access to the resources, employment, services, and opportunities they require to meet their basic human needs and to develop fully. Social workers should be aware of the impact of the political arena on practice and should advocate for changes in policy and legislation to improve social conditions in order to meet basic human needs and promote social justice. . Social Work Safety • Social Work Safety Public Act 098-0529 (SB 1609) Signed into law 8/23/13 – Governor Pat Quinn • Expands protections for social workers working in state positions of employment & would make it a crime to threaten state-employed or state contracted social workers while acting in their capacity as a social worker. • Includes caseworkers and investigators employed by state funded human service providers.
