Prior Learning Portfolio • Students can earn college credit for demonstration of experiential learning through Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) • CAEL – Council on Adult and Experiential Learning Recommendations • CSS – awarding PLA credit to students since 1981
PLA Process • Timing: Meet with Recruitment Counselor prior to admittance or Advisor after admittance • Review/Discuss Experiential Learning • Review course syllabus – learning outcomes • Able to document learning? NOT documenting the experience, student is documenting the learning. • PLA Orientation – 8 weeks – work with Guide/Coach • Review the PLA process, write Educational Plan, Autobiography and Learning Statement, meet with Faculty Evaluator • PLA Specific Course Template – Learning Outcomes • Complete the Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio – clearly communicate and document prior learning related to specific learning outcomes.
