  44. Principal Reflections • “This year was growth year for Beaty due to adding Advisory Time, trying to improve our Exploratory Class, and overall focusing on School Improvement. We addressed these issues through Team Leader Meetings, Common Planning Time, Faculty Meetings, and School Improvement/Schools to Watch Meetings.” - Mrs. Rhonda Decker (Principal – Beaty)

  45. Schools to Watch Update • Eisenhower Middle/Senior High School • Began implementing the middle school concept during the 2009-2010 school year. • Added Exploratory to the master schedule for the first time. • Implemented Teaming for both regular education and special education teachers. • Met with School Improvement Team on a monthly basis. Analyzed District and School Goals. (Identified Strengths and Weaknesses.) • Completed Three surveys in relation to the Schools to Watch Evidence List. (Completed by Faculty; Parents; and Students) • Formulated committees to work on each criteria area. • Beginning the application process. • Met with Dr. Benson regarding application process.

  46. Principal Reflections • “The middle level transition at Eisenhower has created a positive environment for the students. It has allowed teachers to reflect and collaborate on how they best meet the instructional, emotional, and social needs of each student. There has been a tremendous amount of cross-curricular instruction, personalization, team building and unification, social development taking place in a short time. There has been a great deal of focus on the development of the middle school student which has opened up many avenues for success now and in the future. We are continuing to address the longer period for instruction and incorporating all learning modalities. We are also focusing on meeting the needs of the non-traditional learner and how this schedule can increase learning opportunities for those students.”

  47. Schools to Watch Update • Sheffield Middle/Senior High School • Began implementing the middle school concept during the 2009-2010 school year. • Learned skills to improve on teaming (EX: Book Study on “This We Believe.”) • Identified Strengths/Weaknesses of the School • Worked on Improving Advisory • Set Goals for the 2010-2011 School Year

  48. Principal Reflections • “The first portion of the year was challenging, however, the second semester was a huge improvement. The teachers dove into a book study utilizing the book This We Believe. The issues that arose from conversations helped shape the Middle Level In-Service in February and helped guide our second semester. More improvements will be implemented next school year including – more interdisciplinary units, adult advocates for each child, revised Advisory, and Middle School Team Leaders.” - Mrs. Amy Beers (Principal – Sheffield)

  49. Schools to Watch Update • Youngsville Elementary/Middle School • Began implementing the middle school concept during the 2009-2010 school year. (Completed by Faculty; Parents; and Students) • Will continue to improve on areas of weakness and continue to monitor and build on areas of strength. • Plan to apply to become a “Schools to Watch” in 2010.

  50. Principal Reflections • “Though this was the first year for the middle level concept to be implemented into Youngsville Elementary/Middle School, I believe the transition went as smooth as possible. The administration, faculty, and students felt prepared for the change! Much planning and researching was put into the middle level concept. Thankfully, each stakeholder welcomed the change and the results were positive. We look forward to improving the middle level concept and applying to become a “Schools to Watch” School. Eric Mineweaser (Principal – Youngsville)
