  6. ELA • Read • Write • Listen • Speak • Read at least 20 minutes each night as part of PARP program • Writing skills reinforced in all subject areas (POQ) • Book project/presentation each marking period • SURF book everyday • Show and Tell

  7. PARP:Parents As Reading Partners • Read 20 minutes • Need a notebook • Fill out calendar each night and hand in the first of each month

  9. Math • Review of math facts • Estimating and rounding • Multiplication (multi-digit) • Long Division • Geometry • Multi-step word problems. • Fractions • Decimals • Explaining answers • Graphing

  10. Science • Life Science: plants, animals (vertebrates, invertebrates), adaptations (structural/behavioral) • Physical Science: simple machines, electricity, mass, volume, gravity, friction, magnetism • Scientific Method

  11. Social Studies • New York State • United States • Map skills; cities, lakes, oceans, countries, continents • American Revolution • Industrial Revolution (Erie Canal, trains) • Civil War • Immigration

Homework • Check your child’s homework agenda every night for assignments • Be available to assist with homework and studying • Empty the homework folder of all “stay home” papers every night • Sign all tests • Check that your child has finished all assigned work and packed his/her backpack • Missed assignments will be completed during recreation and a missing homework note will go home for you to sign

Snack • Birthdays • Choose an activity from the birthday booklet • Packaged food only • 24 students • Let me know in advance what activity your child has chosen and when you would like to celebrate • Multiple food allergies in the classroom • Snack every morning • Fresh fruit or vegetable • Water bottle (no juice) • Something your child can eat in 5-10 minutes • Chance to socialize and visit the classroom library

  14. Extra Help • Invitation only • Tuesdays and Thursdays • Meet at the side door at 8:35 • Tuesdays: Reading • Thursdays: Math

  15. Power School • If you were registered for Parent Connect then you are already registered for Power School • Visit the computer lab if you have any questions or if you need to register • You may also call the technology office 733-2170
