According to Ayurveda, it occurs when a person has an imbalance of Pittadosha (fire or heat element). Provoked Pitta leads to the increase in acidic content in the stomach fluids which then refluxes and backs upwards to the oesophagus and causes the acid reflux symptoms like chest pain, heartburn, pain while swallowing, nausea, sour belching, chronic dry cough, and other symptoms. In this modern-day lifestyle, there are many factors that increase the Pittadosha. They are:

It helps in relieving cold symptoms and also alleviates heartburn symptoms. The soothing and carminative properties will provide instant relief from acidity. How to use it? Take a few fresh basil leaves. Wash it properly and add it to a cup of boiling water. Let it boil for another 10-15 minutes. Now, strain the tea and add honey for taste. Drink this tea twice a day for instant relief.

Take fresh ginger and wash it thoroughly. Cut it into pieces and add it to a cup of boiling water. Let it boil for 10-15 minutes and then strain the mixture. Add honey to taste and drink this mixture to get relief. If you are comfortable, you can also chew a slice of fresh ginger. It has antacid properties and you can get the same results without taking the tablet or pills. How to use it? Take a few peppermint or mint leaves and wash them. Now add these leaves to a cup of water and boil it Let it boil for 10-15 minutes and then strain the mixture. Add honey for taste and drink this tea. If you don’t have fresh leaves, you can also use dried or powdered peppermint/mint leaves.

  8. Aloe vera juice – If you are comfortable eating aloe vera, then you can try aloe vera juice. It’s an effective home cure for heartburn.But note that eating the gel from the aloe vera plant will not offer you the required results. You have to use it in the right way to make it quite effective. How to use it? Cut a fresh leaf from the aloe vera plant. Take the gel out of the leaf with a knife or spoon. Now grind the gel in a grinder. Add this juice to buttermilk and add salt and pepper powder based on taste. Drink this juice to get effective results.

  9. Baking soda – If you have severe acid reflux symptoms, then baking soda will be the best antacid you need to get the much-required relief. Baking soda is widely used for treating many issues and heartburn is one of them. But note that you should not use this remedy regularly. You can use it only when the symptoms are worse. This is because, baking soda does neutralize the stomach acid but when taken regularly, the high salt content in it will result in nausea when overused. How to use it? Take a cup of warm water. Add half to one teaspoon of baking soda to it. Make sure to use the baking soda quantity based on your tolerance level. Mix this solution properly and drink it up. This remedy will help you get relief from severe heartburn symptoms.
