The Koryo Dynasty (935-1392 CE) emerged from the ashes of the Silla Dynasty, driven by the ambitions of Wang Kon after Silla's weakening due to factionalism and lack of buffers against external threats. Koryo became synonymous with cultural flourishing, establishing a strong civil service and promoting arts, notably Buddhism. While advancements in women's rights and societal roles marked this period, the dynasty struggled with Mongol invasions and internal strife. Ultimately, Koryo's legacy paved the way for the establishment of the Chosun Dynasty in 1392.
