  3. Why do some linguists exclude context from the study of semantic ?One reason is that there are theoretical and practical difficulties in handling context satisfactorily .

  4. But there are other reasons :First ,it is argued that the meaning of sentence or the fact that it is ambiguous or anomalous can be known in isolation form any context

  5. SolutionWe must know the meaning of sentence before we can use it in any given context ;meaning is shown to be independent of context and linguists can ,and must ,study it without reference to context

  6. 2nd: the world of experience must of necessity include the sum of human knowledge.

  7. It will be remembered that part of the aim of semantics is to ‘’account for the number of readings of a sentence’’

  8. Example: The bill is large. This sentence has two meanings. It can be disambiguated if we extend it with ………..but need not be paid. This extension is possible only with one of the meanings of bill.

  9. We ought not to make decision to treat such a retracted form of semantics as more central to the study of language

  10. For tow reasons 1-if we only use highly structured aspects of sense relations,only a small part of meaning will ever be captured .

  11. 2-it is impossible to draw a clear theoretical division between what in the world and what in the language. If we think we are concerned with the speaker’s knowledge it is, surely, almost certain that the speaker doesn't separate, in his use of the language ,his knowledge of semantic structure and his knowledge of the world
