  1. Production and Layout

  2. Rough Cut • The genre of our radio drama was comedy/ drama based around a fashion theme. We used sound effects such as giggling and expressed exaggerated emotions such as gasp sound effects and “ooos and aahs”, as this added to the ‘over the top’ comedy aspect. • The music we chose to use had an upbeat tempo we decided on this to keep our target audience engaged and also to substitute the absence of visual imagery. • The posters were our chance to use visual imagery to grab our target audiences attention, to do this we used bright colours and bold text. We also chose to use colours which connote the relationship between our main characters rivals Vivienne and Lauren. Eg: The colour green has connotations of envy and jelousy - Vivienne = the ‘green-eyed monster’

  3. Music magazine “ Yuneek” • My music magazine was influenced by other publications such as radio times and established music magazines that fall into the category of hip hop and RnB. I used these magazines as a reference to my front cover layout as well as my contents page and double page spread because I wanted my music magazine to be consistent and look professional by keeping the same theme throughout my magazine

  4. Under the Mushroom Cloud • As my radio drama was a post-apocalyptic action, we used sound effects to enhance this. For example we used a lot of explosions and gunshots. • As there was an absence of visuals, we had to make sure the drama was portrayed clearly through not only narrative and story, but through dialogue, music, SFX and also silence. This gave a chance for our audience to use their imagination and get involved with the drama.

  5. Detour • I used other publications to influence my own work. I analysed media products so that when I was making my own, I knew what to include and how to attract my target audience. • As our genre was horror/thriller, the sounds that we used were pretty stereotypical to that genre. We used silence to build up tension, as well as screams and monstrous growls. We used these to enhance our drama and make it seem realistic. • Obviously with our drama, there was no visual imagery, so we had to ensure that it was very clear to the audience what was happening. We did this with dialogue and the content of our drama. We also made it audibly entertaining and realistic by adding in relevant sound effects and music.

  6. AS: Magazine Flava Rava/ A2: rough cut drama • My AS poster/contents and feature were developed by the influence of different magazines. Mix Magazine is a dance magazine which influenced my work by the colours, themes and the artists shown in the magazine which I developed my work by the same style of their magazine. • A2 in my radio drama I used sound effects to show the setting/ location of London by sounds of cars, people, camera flashes to show paparazzi I used dialogue to explain what was happening and the relationship of the characters which helped understand the drama considering they cannot visualize the drama.

  7. AS Music Magazine/A2 drama Under the Mushroom Cloud • Both my music magazine and my double page spread were influenced by existing products of the same type. • The effects in my drama were influenced by the genre. These effects include gun shots, a body falling to the floor, and a rather dramatic musical finale. We utilised a low droning noise when they reached the shelter too, and computer noises to give it a technological element.

  8. Detour I looked at various other publications to collect ideas for my work. In a way I wanted my to look unique but I still wanted it to include conventions of other existing magazines. The choice of sound effects and music was influenced vastly by my genre which was horror. This genre relies a lot on sound effects and music to portray the genre and to show the atmosphere at the given time. As there was no visuals we had to try very hard to make it scary and also make sense. We realised we had to add a sound effect for the smallest thing for example footsteps, just so our audience can follow what’s going on. Also our characters were very stereotypical so we needed to think of a way to portray this on radio so our audience could understand who the protagonist was.
