  1. Annual Golf Outing Getaway Gang Los Angeles & Riverside Its that time again Getaway Gang, Well, we have decided to take our Golfing Getaway Outing to another new location. Next stop on tour is the Los Angeles area. One course is in the West Covina area and the other is about 30 miles east in Riverside. I highly recommend staying at the Pacific Palms Resort where we will be playing on Monday. That way you can drive out to Riverside on Sunday (without commute traffic) and be on site Monday for your round of golf. Plus the Pacific Palms Resort has an two courses so you can play the other course at your leisure (Babe course). Of special note is the double-decker driving range that is lit up and available until 11:00 PM. There also is an excellent pool area, outside seating around a fire pit, spa , bar, and restaurant onsite. Golf for the two courses is very reasonable with the total for both courses being under $200. Last years outing was a basic unknown (Temecula) and everyone who attended really enjoyed the area and courses. So, thought we could try another unknown and see how it goes. There are always plenty of things to do in the Los Angeles basin. Golf Date: Sunday – April (TBD) Monday – April (TBD) Place: Oak Quarry Golf Club Palm Pacific Resort Course: Oak Quarry Golf Course Eisenhower Golf Course First Tee Time: 10:00 AM 10:00 AM While there is an abundance of beautiful golf courses in Southern California, strangely there are not many golf resorts. Oak Quarry is a thrilling, 18-hole, 72-par championship course, masterfully designed by Dr. Gil Morgan/Schmidt Curley Designs. The CGCOA’s 2011 Course of the Year winds through the picturesque jagged terrain of the historical Jensen Quarry. Since opening in 2000, this unparalleled course has received many awards including "Best Course Inland Southern California,” "Hole #14 rated Best Par 3 in Southern California," and "Hole #4 Prettiest Par 4.“ Oak Quarry features four sets of tee boxes to test every skill level. It offers the finest playing surfaces with greens in PennlinksBentgrass and fairways and roughs in 419 Hybrid Bermuda. The practice facility has an all grass driving range with chipping and putting greens. Locals and fans affectionately call this national golf treasure "Ike." Because it attracts golfers from around the world, it is fitting that the 18-hole, classic par 72 course be named for a popular world leader who also happened to love the game. Since reopening in late 2006 after a multimillion-dollar renovation, the Ike continues to win over fans with its traditional features -- long fairways and large undulating greens -- and improvements such as softened bunkers and re-graded and newly constructed greens. Ike has earned its place at the top of the field as one of the most challenging courses in Southern California . The Eisenhower stretches from 5,662 yards from the forward tees to 7,221 yards from the championship tees. Designed by William F. Bell, this course features slope ratings from 130 to 145. It's no wonder that the Ike has been the proud host of many U.S. Open Qualifying tournaments as well as LPGA tour events. Here is the plan. As was the case last year, Saturday most likely will be utilized as a travel day. The first day of golfing has been scheduled for the Oak Quarry Golf Course in Riverside (about 30 mile east of the City of Industry) on Sunday, with our second day of golfing taking place at the Pacific Palms Resort – Eisenhower Golf Course on Monday. Finally, Tuesday is an optional day of leisure or a departure day if you so choose. If you stick around for an extra day of fun, your return day will be Wednesday.

  2. Easter falls on 3/31/13 this year and my rule is to always stay away from the week before and the week after Easter because of school and Spring breaks. So this year we are moving either further away to the end of April. This will be the first year that our Golf Outing will not have a casino in the area, but it appears there are less and less attendees actually partaking in that pastime. This year there will be numerous other options for activities and sightseeing. As you are all aware, the Los Angeles area has plenty of choices. Last year’s trip had another good turn out. So, don’t miss out. Once again, we will have challenging golf courses, enjoyable socializing (golfing and at dinner) and fond memories. Make plans and don’t miss out! A Dinner Social has bee set up for Sunday evening (post the first day of Golf). The Dinner will be held at the “Red” If you have any questions, feel free to inquire, Lad Meairs Email: meairs2@comcast.net (home) or laddin.d.meairs@lmco.com (work) Phones: (925) 978-0170 (home) (925) 829-8615 ext 330 (work) (925) 813-2465 (cell) We have a new option this year for paying! 3. Website: http://www.oakquarry.com/ Place: Oak Quarry Golf Club Date: Sunday – April (TBD) Course: The Oak Quarry Course Tee Time: 10:00 AM (first group) Location: Riverside, California Price $105.00 Opened for play in the year 2000, Oak Quarry was created by Champions Tour star Dr Gil Morgan and the Schmidt-Curley design team. Located about 5 miles from Riverside, this spectacular 7000 yard championship layout was rated as the # 1 Best Inland Course in Southern California by Press Enterprise and by Tee It Up Magazine, and the 14th hole (Spinel Slide) was rated as the # 1 par three in Southern Cal by Orange County Magazine. Golf Digest has called Oak Quarry the National Park of Golf - the Yosemite of the golf world. In 2008 Oak Quarry was rated #3 in California and #26 in the U.S. by GolfLink. The course winds through the historic Jensen Quarry. Jagged rock outcroppings and views of the Jurupa Mountains  highlight a surreal environment along a rolling terrain that is landscaped with some of the finest playing surfaces in the region - Pennlinksbentgrass greens and 419 hybrid bermuda fairways, tees and rough. Dramatic elevation changes also help make this a memorable experience. There are 4 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and yardages measuring 7002 yards/137 slope, 6600 yards/133 slope, 6028 yards/126 slope for men and 136 for women, and 5408 yards with a slope of 121 for ladies hitting from the forward sets..The clubhouse features a nicely stocked pro shop, casual restaurant/lounge that serves breakfast and lunch daily with wonderful views of the 16th, 17th and 18th holes, plus an outdoor patio. Practice facilities include an all grass driving range plus putting and chipping greens. There are 60 soft sand bunkers (some quite deep) situated along the landing zones off the tee or greenside, and water comes into play on 7 holes - none more ominously than on the extraordinary par three 14th - one of the most beautiful golf holes I have ever witnessed! No exaggeration, this is an incredibly unique par three, beginning from elevated tees to a undulating green fronted by the deep water of a former quarry, and backed by majestic rock outcroppings. There are many interesting holes on this layout, but 14 is the one that will remain embedded in your memory. All the par threes are gorgeous, and the par fives though challenging, are reachable with two well struck shots. There is plenty of opportunity to gamble, as doglegs over and around canyons and bunkers are numerous. The round finishes with a flourish, as the 17th and 18th are separated by a beautiful natural area/pond inhabited by plentiful wildlife. Golfers will appreciate the fact that there is usually sufficient room on the fairways, and recovery opportunities are also quite possible near the green complexes. The putting surfaces are very undulating, which further enhances the challenge and enjoy-ability of a round here.

Azusa Avenue Industry, CA 91748 (626) 839-4116 http://www.joescrabshack.com In 1991, two guys spent the summer cruising down the Gulf Coast stopping at every seaside crab shack along the way. After a long summer of cold beer and hot crab, in the heart of Houston, Texas, Joe’s Crab Shack was born. Joe’s is the kind of place that welcomes you in warmly and feeds you delicious seafood. But it doesn’t stop there. It’s here that good food, good times and good memories are created every day. We’re a little quirky, but we’re proud of it. So strap on a bib, order your favorite bucket of crab and don’t be afraid to dance. Classic Steampot – Tasty Dungeness crab, sweet Snow crab, boiled shrimp, smoked sausage, fresh corn and potatoes is traditional, yet unforgettable. Bean Town Bake – Two whole lobsters, 1 pound of clams, shrimp, sausage, fresh corn and potatoes. Salmon Orleans – Topped with creamy Cajun sauce loaded with crawfish, shrimp and andouille sausage. Shark Bite – Everybody out of the water, this bloody good cocktail is a combination of Bacardi Limon Rum, Skyy Vodka, blue curacao, sweet & sour and a dangerous dose of grenadine.
