Innovative Technologies in the Retail Sector You Can Not Miss

The retail sector today is more or less in a state of paradox. On one hand, e-commerce is growing at a rapid pace. On the other side, retail shops and department stores are still an important part of the consumer’s journey. Most consumers prefer shopping in a store that has both an online presence as well as a physical store, and the stress is further on having an omnichannel experience, with maybe virtual try as well.<br>

  1. Innovative Technologies in the Retail Sector You Can’t Miss

  2. The retail sector today is more or less in a state of paradox. On one hand, e-commerce is growing at a rapid pace. On the other side, retail shops and department stores are still an important part of the consumer’s journey. Most consumers prefer shopping in a store that has both an online presence as well as a physical store, and the stress is further on having an omnichannel experience, with maybe virtual try as well. Both type of channels has their own perks. While in-store shopping experience creates a sensation of general brand loyalty, online shopping from e-commerce websites offer convenience as well as deep discounts.

  3. Grab and Go Checkout It is a great attempt by Amazon to integrate the in-store and online retail shopping experience. It has been reported that Amazon is launching ‘Grab and Go Checkout’ stores – Amazon Go. Similar attempts have been already made. For example, virtual try dresses allows the users to virtually try on dresses on their mobile app and see for themselves how the dress would look on them, in real-time. With grab and go checkout, as the name suggests, users can grab all that they want and simply checkout – without having to queue at the payment counter. While entering the store, simply scan QR code on your Amazon app for gaining access to the store. With a complex network of sensors and cameras installed on shelves, Amazon will know when you pick up an item and place it in cart. The products will be them automatically updated in your virtual cart. Then you can simply leave the store with your purchases. Amazon will bill you automatically and send the receipt to you.

  4. Augmented Reality One technology that is taking the retail sector by storm is Augmented Reality (AR). It is the future! It introduces a completely new level of user experience and interaction between the consumer and the product. AR helps engage consumers like never before by enhancing the sensory experience of shopping online. Augmented reality can be used through mobile or head-mounted displays (HMDs). HMDs with AR-enables are still in a very nascent stage and has very limited industrial applications. Mobile AR apps, however, are very popular in the retail industry lately and have also found a stronghold. With AR-enabled shopping apps, consumers can visualize the products in real-time through using the phone peripherals. For example, you want to buy a new sofa set for your living room. But how can you be sure how it would look like in your living room. The only way is to buy it and see for yourself. And what if you don’t like it so much, after purchasing it. You would have to return it and make another purchase. With AR-enabled app you can visualize, how the sofa set would look like in the living room in real time. AR is also beneficial in the travel industry. With Augmented Reality Travelyou can simply scan a landmark, and your device will show you a path to your destination. No more wandering about a foreign place asking for directions.
