  2. Setting • The setting is the streets. She goes all the way from her foster-home in the south to Las Angeles, California. There are lots of different settings like her foster-home, a place that she calls “The Cement City”, a dried out river, and even in some ones backyard in Beverly Hills, California.

  4. Conflict • The main conflict is a man vs society. It is about a girl trying to live as a runaway and has to try to survive on the streets and has to figure out how to find food, water, and shelter.

  5. Summary of Plot • The book Runaway is about an orphan named Holly. Her dad died in a tractor accident when she was little and her mom died years later of a drug overdose. She now lives with her foster parents who lock her in a laundry room with little food and only let her out for school. In the journal that Mrs.Leone gave her before she ran away Holly tells you about her journey from her foster parents house in the south all the way to California. Through out the whole book she explains how she survives as a runaway, and how hard it is not getting caught.

Theme • The theme is don’t judge people you don’t even know. • Text evidence 1: “She looked at me like I was a dweeb.” (Pg. 30) • Text evidence 2: “I’ve gotten The Look about ten times in the last ten minutes.” (Pg.88) • Text evidence 3: I heard the paper rustle and Walt’s voice say, “ Social services won’t believe me if I complain. They’ll say I’m just looking for trouble.” (Pg.3)

  7. Point of view • The point of view is first person. It helps the reader understand more because it is her writing about her journey. It might have been different if somebody else tried to describe it.

  8. symbolism • This picture symbolizes the book Runaway because she is always judged By other people that don’t really even know her that well so she always just hides from people and doesn’t really even have any friends.

  9. recommendation • I think that the book Runaway is a really good book. It is really good because there are no boring parts and almost a surprise on every page. If you like adventure books you should read “Runaway”.
