Empowering Through Creativity: Young DaDa Disability & Deaf Arts

1. Introductions Task One: Everyone needs to stand in a line, at one end of the line should be the person who has come the furthest distance at the other end of the line should be the person who has travelled the shortest distance (from home) – you will need to speak to each other to find out where you are from Task two: You need to tell the group two things about yourself, one should be true and one false. The group will have to guess which one is true and which one is false

3. Introduction to Young DaDa Since 2002 we have run arts projects for young disabled and deaf people. Young DaDa encourages and empowers disabled and deaf young people through creativity. Over 2000 young people have taken part in creative projects and training including visual arts, performance, creative writing and film-making with Young DaDa. Young People make key decisions on the running of Young DaDa and nurture their leadership skills through our Young DaDa Steering Group.

5. Blueprints for Change Film Young DaDa worked with a group of young disabled and deaf people who made a short film about the barriers they face in attending youth projects. The film was devised, filmed, edited and narrated by the young people themselves and includes interviews with their peers. The young people received training in film-making skills throughout the project. The film has been distributed to other organisations to encourage changes in their policies and practice. 6. Young Dada Projects Throughout the year we run other arts projects from visual arts, film, creative writing and performance. The Steering Group come up with ideas for new projects and help plan and run event and projects. 20 Stories High Workshop

8. Schoolageddon In Autumn and Winter 2012, Young filmmakers from three schools in Liverpool joined together to create a short three minute film. The film, called ‘Schoolageddon’ is about a victim who gets bullied and decides to take action, with surprising and otherworldly consequences. DOT (DaDaFest on Tour) Aims: To Help promote Disability & Deaf artists and companies to tour across the UK and promote disability and deaf arts to increase reach and appreciation 5 partner areas across the UK Each partner area has agreed to identify young people to work alongside their developing to gain experience in learning skills i.e. programming, producing, logistics and administration.

10. Young DaDaFest We celebrate the work and the achievements of young people at Young DaDaFest. Young DaDaFest is an annual event where Young Disabled and Deaf People perform to an audience of over 250 people. In 2012 we had 95 performers. Young DaDaFest 2012
