  1. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SHOTCRETE Presented by: Pro Shotcrete Brisbane

  2. This technique can be defined as the process of repairing damaged concrete work because of inferior work. This is done by delivering an impervious layer to the damaged surface. Gunite is sprayed systematically onto the surface with high velocity and with a lot of pressure. Once the process is done, the concrete starts consolidating and settling. Shotcreteis a building material that is normally formed from a mixture of cement and sand. The ratio here is usually 1:3. Shotcrete is a term normally used for both wet mix and dry mix processes but when it comes to the construction of a swimming pool, shotcrete will mean wet mix whereas gunite dry. This technique is mostly used in construction projects like swimming pools, tunnels, underground projects, structural repairs and slope stabilization. The materials are reinforced with permanent formwork using materials like steel mesh, fibres and steel rods.

  3. Types of Shotcrete • The Dry Shotcrete Procedure • The Wet Shotcrete Procedure

  4. ● Relatively cheap as compared to conventional concrete ● Not limited to any design, you can have any shape and size of a structure ● Easy to apply because you can spray it to areas that are impossible to reach Advantages of Shotcrete Shotcrete is; ● Offer low shrinkage and permeability ● It is applied with fibres which give it great flexural strength and toughness ● Adherent to the surface, it is much better than regular conventional concrete ● Its placing and consolidation take place simultaneously ● Easy to work with for it’s applied using a nozzle from a safe distance. ● Requires less for work and shuttering as compared to regular concrete. ● It has a great bonding nature which keeps the concrete layer strong

  5. Disadvantages of Shotcrete • There’s a lot of concrete wastage during application. • The process is costly and not favourable in isolated areas.

  6. Use of shotcrete • Construction projects like tunnels, pools, water tanks, retention walls and structural reinforcement. • Widely stretched in the building of vertical or horizontal surfaces of curved columns like canals and reservoirs • Used for protection against fire, long-term corrosion pilling, steel building frames and coal bunkers. • Shotcrete uses a small maximum size aggregate with a high content of cement. • In most cases, shotcrete application is usually done to enhance durability. • It is compacted with high velocity, unlike conventional concrete which is compacted by vibrations.

  7. Up to You Shotcrete is capable of bonding with so many materials and this has made it a better companion in construction. Just like other concrete, shotcrete requires enough time to cure to prevent cracks and offer a strong weatherproof surface. The curing process of this type of technique should take a maximum of 14 days from the time it attained setting.
