  1. APPENDICECTOMY Appendicectomy is a surgical operation in which vermiform appendix is removed. Normally performed as an emergency procedure to treat complicated acute appendicitis INCISIONS IN APPENDICECTOMY 1) Gridiron incision: An oblique incision made in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen, classically used for appendicectomy. A McBurney is a called a ‘gridiron’ incision, because it consists of two perpendicular lines, splitting the fibers of the muscles without cutting them – this allows for excellent healing. 2)Rutherford morison's muscle cutting incision:-Rutherford-Morison incision: similar with the Gridiron incision but the surgeon extends the incision into an oblique and curvilinear orientation, facilitating access to the ascending colon and sigmoid; also used for kidney transplantation. 3) Lanz crease incision 4)Lower midline incision 5) Laproscopic approach 6) Fowler -weir approach
