  5. Prayer • How does it conquer the Devil? • It teaches me to be humble • I depend on God • Left to myself I can do only evil • Resolution • Daily Mass • Confession each Wednesday • Daily recitation of the Rosary

  6. Baptism - Effects Objectives Define catechumenate Differentiate catechumenate for adults vs infant baptism Be able to list major effects of Baptism Explain why Baptism cannot be repeated

  7. Catechumenate • This means instruction in the faith. • Formation which leads to conversion • It is the process by which we learn about what we believe and how to worship • This process is the responsibility of all of The People of God

  8. Catechumenate • Infants • Post baptismal • Catholic schools • Adults • Done before reception of the sacrament • RCIA • Early Church this was three years • Today about 10 months

Effects of Baptism • Removes Original Sin • Sanctifying grace infused • Theological virtues: Faith, Hope, Charity (Love) • All actual sins forgiven • If any have been committed- adult • Punishment for sin is remitted • No time in purgatory • New creation-new birth • Adopted children of God • Temple of the Holy Spirit • Member of the Body of Christ • Member of the Church

  10. Effects of Baptism cont. • An indelible mark or character is left • Cannot be repeated • Mark is always present even if they fall away from the Church and God • Effects of Original sin still remain • Sickness • Physical death • Temptation • Concupiscence
