  3. In 2008 Senator Barrack Obama of Illinois ran a campaign of HOPE & CHANGE Much of his campaign focused on fixing problems brought about by the mismanagement of the War in Iraq

Promises End the abuse of supplemental budgets for war In Works In Works Bolster the military's ability to speak different languages In Works Increase special operations forces and civil affairs Begin removing combat brigades from Iraq (end within 16 months) In Works Launch robust diplomatic effort with Iraq and its neighbors In Works Successful No permanent bases in Iraq Fully and properly equip troops In works

The Cost Of war 2006-2010 Price: The cost of the Iraq war is rapidly expanding every day, some of the latest numbers place the overall cost of the war at $712,659,500,000 The increasing deficit can be found here.   6. Obama “Promises” • President Obama has declared that the United States will successfully have pulled out of Iraq by August 2010. • In order to keep his promise he must remove 115000 troops from the country of Iraq in the next 5 months.

  7. Afghanistan • If we are indeed out of Iraq by the end of the summer we will still have to contend with the brewing war in Afghanistan • 13,000 American Troops are currently in Afghanistan • Obama has ordered 30,000 troops to Afghanistan by the middle of 2010

Afghanistan cont. • According to the Huffington Post 3.8 billion is being spent in Afghanistan each month • Obama is planning on sending $30,000 more troops to Afghanistan by the summer of 2010 • These newly deployed troops will replace the ones returning from Iraq • Essentially even if we can pull out of Iraq by August it wont matter because they will just be moving to Afghanistan.
