STEP 2 If it doesn't work, then we get some paper towels, cotton buds (Q-Tips), and warm foamy water. Now we switch off or unplug the printer after removing the ink cartridges. STEP 3 Place the cartridge on the paper towel. Next, check where the ink is coming from. Use a moist (not doused) cotton bud to spot and clean the print head if it appears blocked. When the print head is part of the cartridge carriage, we use cotton buds to clean the area where the ink comes out. There is a need to use caution so our printer does not come wet. STEP 4 A cartridge's seals are not completely removed, resulting in blackouts or horizontal lines down the page. It attaches to the rollers or drum unit and closes off a line of toner or ink during printing. STEP 5 We can examine the drum, printhead, ink cartridge, or toner cartridge for any seals.
