  1. What You Need to Know About Medical Leave and Carers Leave Certificates Have you ever found yourself with a sick relative and felt there was no choice but not to go to work? It can be hard and unpredictable but life happens. Taking your relative to a doctor may not be practical or reasonable under the circumstances. You can turn to an online services provider to receive a medical certificate for leave. If your relative is better off resting and convalescing at home then an online consultation is the best solution for you and the patient. The online consultation is undertaken by a qualified doctor and if further medical solutions are required the doctor will inform you of what is to happen. What are Carers Leave and Sick Leave? According to Fairwork Australia, Carers Leave is when an employee may have to take time off to care for an immediate family or household member who is sick or injured or help during a family emergency. This is known as carers leave. Family is explained as being: spouse or former spouse de facto partner or former de facto partner child parent grandparent grandchild sibling, or child, parent, grandparent, grandchild or sibling of the employee’s spouse or de facto partner (or former spouse or de facto partner). Step relations and adopted relations are included in the definition of family. Each full time or part-time employee is usually allowed 10 days leave as carers leave. Usually when you are taking carers leave you will need to have a medical certificate for leave to confirm the medical situation. Personal sick leave is under the same entitlement as carers leave in terms of the number of days for paid leave. Your employer may require a medical certificate for leave for one day. With this requirement, it is up to the employer as to how many days sick they will require a medical note. Are there rules when it comes to Medical Certificates What should I expect from my Medical Certificate? When it comes to the actual medical certificate for leave there are several guidelines that Doctors must follow. It has to be dated from the date you have had the consultation and the doctor may recommend further days off, depending on your illness and the type of work that you do. This will be reflected in the doctor’s certificate you receive. It may state the certificate is for the current day and the day after if your doctor decides you are not fit for work. It is entirely their discretion. The doctor cannot write on the certificate what you are suffering from unless you agree to have it stated on the certificate. If you do not give permission to have your illness written on your certificate your doctor absolutely cannot write it down. If after the time period of the medical certificate for leave has lapsed and you are still feeling unwell you should seek further medical advice and possibly another medical certificate may be needed if you are unwell. Choose an online medical services provider to ensure that your time to rest and heal is maximised and you will be back to full health in no time! https://www.primemedic.com.au/certificate/carer/
