  2. AP consists of 33 college-level courses and exams in 19 disciplines designed for highly motivated students in secondary schools. Its exceptional reputation is made possible by the close cooperation of secondary schools, colleges and the College Board. More than 2900 universities and colleges worldwide grant credit, advanced placement, or both to students who have performed satisfactorily on the exams, and approximately 1400 institutions grant sophomore standing to students who have demonstrated their competence in three or more of these exams. 15 Canadian Universities accept AP results (total of 9974 exams for 2009) Advance Placement Program

  3. www.ap.ca Each course is developed by a committee made up of college faculty and AP teachers Members of these Development Committees are appointed by the College Board and serve for overlapping terms of up to 4 years Courses and exams are now available in the following subject areas:

  4. Biology Calculus AB, BC Chemistry Computer Science A, AB (not offered in 09/10) Environmental Science Physics B,C Psychology Statistics Courses

  5. AP is a significant force in education, especially at the secondary level. Approximately 14000 high schools throughout the world participate in the AP Program In May 1998 approximately 635000 students wrote more than one million AP exams In Canada, 21 451 exams written in 2009. 75.6% of students scored 3 or higher Exams are written in May

  6. Any school may participate in the exam, it need only file the AP participation form sent to all high schools every fall. All exams contain a free-response section (either essay or problem-solving)

AP Biology • Each exam consists of 2 sections • Section 1: Multiple choice section testing proficiency in a wide variety of topics • 25% of M are likely to be on the subject Area I (Molecules and cells) • Section 2: A free-response section requiring the student to demonstrate the ability to solve problems involving a more extended chain of reasoning • 4 essay questions (heredity and evloution and organisms and populations) In answering any of the four free-response questions, students may need to analyze and interpret data or information drawn from lab experience (as well as lecture material) or to integrate material from different areas of the course.

The IB Organization and its regional office in North America offer workshops for teachers First, Schools must apply to be an “IB World School” Second, teachers must attend a three day workshop which provides the basic knowledge and training to prepare teachers to teach and assess the IB curriculum Attend regional conferences organized by the IB Consult the OCC (Online curriculum centre) Use IB curriculum docs There is a booklet available on the IBO website, www.ibo.org that introduces the workshops and describes the different levels and programmes.   IB Program

UBC recognizes the IB exams You can most easily see what workshops are available, when and where including registration information by going to a website called: www.ibo.org/iba/workshops/documents/2010OnlineRegistration.pdf Workshops offered directly by IBNA are open only to teachers at applicant or candidate schools but workshops offered by our various partners who are identified in the list are open to all. Level 1 DP in Vancouver Dec 11/09 for Biology Category 1, 2 and combined DP in Montreal March 12/10 for Biology All curriculum documents are available for purchase through the "sales" section of the IBO website.
