  3. What do Den Walkers do? • Greet all campers with a SMILE! • Take attendance • Ensure den has names on shirts • **Keep den together and ensure chaperone at all times • Assign buddies within den (first den meeting activity) • Maintain control and reward Scout-like behavior **Set Den rules • **ESCORT den from site to site • Serve as extra hands for program activities and games **especially crafts • Encourage drinking water • Build den spirit (songs, yells, etc.) • Assess need for First Aid

  4. Things to bring Must Haves: • Wagon • Light weight lawn chair • Closed toed shoes • Hat • Water • Day Camp Shirt****(Mandatory, no one is allowed at camp without the current day camp shirt) Optional: • Travel games (cheap cards etc) • Pillow case for den flag • Old towel • Miscellaneous: Mesh bag, moist towellettes or wipes, folding chair

  5. You should get: • Schedule • Map of facility • List of scouts in your den (look for noted concerns) • Sharpie • Bag for cups • T-shirt/Cup for each scout

  6. Items of note • Bracelets – health issues or “no photos” • Behavior problems – front desk can help • Parent contact – check your emails daily! • Two deep leadership at all times! • Buddy System • Attendance Sheets/Lunch bins – don’t take with you – send to front desk before going to 1st activity. • Check the daily notes in attendance sheets • Stay with den in stands at the end of the day until cub master dismisses you.

  7. Items of note… • Personal breaks- let us know so we can help. • Lunches – Program people will help! • Your assistance is necessary for program activities to succeed! • Adult conversations around kids- be careful of the type of conversations you are having with other adults and with the scouts. • Cell phones – for phone use only. If you must make/take a call, please let us know so that we can cover you area. Use phone out of sight of the scouts.

  8. Items of note • Sunscreen/bug spray – make sure to apply liberally and often! • Scout Service Crew helpers (helpful/not so helpful and who to talk to about it) • Den Walker Assistants/Den Chiefs – you may have a scout in your group that has special needs. For that reason you may have a parent or den chief there to help. Work as a team when possible. • Money from kids for shirts/stuff – you can offer to hold money for the scouts so that they won’t lose it. If they decline that is ok but a lot of money is lost at camp under the bleachers etc. • Bleacher behavior (opening/wrap-up and presentations)- a scout is respectful so during presentations while on the bleachers, the scouts should remain seated. Any bathroom breaks can be taken before or after. • Program help (crafts and sports) As a den walker please make sure to help during the programs and sports.

  9. Extras that make parents smile • Photos – Facebook etc..(only your child) – look for the wristbands. We will set up a photo account for parents to view and download photos from camp. If posting to Facebook, only post to the Big Cypress site unless you have photos of you and your child. • Good notes/emails • Make sure scout goes home with his stuff.
