  5. Background • Result of the California RPE Capacity Building Plan • Main goal: provide a state level analysis of current capacity and areas for additional training and support

  6. Methodology • 95% response to at least one survey • 87% Prevention Coordinators • 76% of Leadership (Executive Directors) • Similar to 2010 survey • based on 2007 & 2009 surveys

  7. “Remarkable shift” • Moving beyond raising awareness -> • Shifting cultural norms and stopping rape

  8. Defining prevention • Three main ways in which CA RPE grantees defined their prevention work: • 1. Raising awareness • 2. Shifting rape culture • 3. Stopping rape before it happens

  9. Strategies

  10. Strategies • Bystander empowerment (17% difference) • Engaging boys and men (16% difference) • Engaging youth (14% difference)

  11. Comprehensive services

  12. Resources remain limited • Limited number of funding sources for prevention work • Difficulty in demonstrating outcomes • Demonstrating high benefits of low cost prevention efforts
