  5. Intro to Isaiah • Isaiah prophesied from the end of the reign of Uzziah through Hezekiah’s reign in Judah • Isaiah lived and worked in Judah • He worked beyond the fall of Samaria • Isaiah outlived Hezekiah (Is. 37:38)

Overview of Isaiah • Isaiah neatly divides into two sections • Chapters 1-39 • Chapters 40-66 • Some have said that Isaiah is like a “miniature Bible” • They point out that there are 66 books, 39 in the OT and 27 in the NT matching Isaiah’s division • They point out that the message of the first 39 chapters is judgment and the message of the last 27 chapters is hope • While there is some validity to it, I would use caution with such a comparison • Specifically, we don’t want to send the message that the OT is only about judgment or give credence to the idea that God is more harsh in the OT
