NOTE: During our Welcome Ceremony, students will be pre-registered for the incoming school year. Please bring the following documents to the ceremony: birth certificate, Social Security card, electric bill. Students applying for the program must submit all of the above • requirements except for 7th and 8th grade STAAR Scores. Students need to submit 9th and/or 10th grade E.O.C. results (i.e. • Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II). Finally, new students need to enroll in Principles of Health Science and/or Health Science to establish an academic foundation with our programs. • CURRICULUM CHOICES • Bel Air High School Center for Health Profession students will be enrolled in the basic Freshman curriculum. Yarbrough, El Paso, Texas 79915 • 915-434-2000 • FAX 915-434-2174 • STUDENT/PARENT COMMITMENT 2018-2019 • (Page 4 of 6) • We, the student and parent, understand that students who plan to attend Bel Air High School’s Center for Health Professions must meet the minimum standards for acceptance. We recognize that attendance at Bel Air High School Center for Health Professions is a privilege not a right. Admission to the Center for Health Professions is competitive and admission is based on the student’s ability to meet the set academic, attendance, behavior and citizenship criteria. Students are held to a higher standard than required by non-magnet schools. With this acknowledgment, we understand that the following standards and requirements must be complied with in order to be considered for enrollment and continued enrollment at the Center for Health Professions. Failure to adhere to the following guidelines will lead to the student being placed on probation and /or separated from the program. • As future students we understand and agree to: • 1. Prioritize my schedule and put first things first by not over extending myself and making commitments with other programs which can affect my status in the Center for Health Professions. • 2. Attend all mandatory H.P. meetings, if required Wednesday Study Hall, Saturday T.S.I. tutoring, etc. • 3. Maintain positive behavior without any discipline referrals. (NOTE: Students placed at Cesar Chavez Academy, those who are involved with controlled substances or alcohol, fight, bully, break any rule(s) at a job site, inappropriate behavior on social media, and or other behavior violating YISD Code of Conduct will be considered a severe violation and will be immediately separated from the Center for Health Professions Program). • 4. Maintain exemplary attendance; in class attendance at 90% of the time. • 5. Maintain an 85 cumulative G.P.A. yearly • 6. Enroll and successfully complete 3 Advanced Classes in core content area (English, Science, Math, History) every year. (Dual Credit, Pre-AP, AP). 2 advanced classes Senior year • 7. Enroll in Algebra II Sophomore year. (NOTE: Students may need to double up on math courses their Sophomore year) • 8. Have all cell phones off while at the medical center or job site. Using a cell phone, social media, and/or taking pictures or being in a picture while at a job site/medical center is considered a severe violation. (Please see #2) • 9. Take all required exams for certification. • Provide my own transportation as needed to fulfill all class requirements. (NOTE: Transportation is required for many of our programs, failure to have steady transportation at the start of the year might lead to the removal from the program during any part of the semester). • Follow the district and the Center for Health Profession dress code, including but not limited to beards, hair length/color/style, grooming, fingernail length, facial piercings, gauges, dress and footwear. • Abide by all YISD discipline policies to include not being involved with gangs or gang activities, including exhibiting gang graffiti, gang clothing or gang insignias. (Please see #2) • Demonstrate the appropriate social manners while interacting with different health care professionals and adhere to all rules and regulations established at school, medical center or job site. • Return all required paperwork the following day. • Abide by ALL HIPAA regulations and not jeopardize BAHS clinical teacher’s certification and or credentials by violations of HIPAA, YISD regulations, and or the medical center/job site rules. • Pass all E.O.C. exams on the first proctoring. • Have my Titers and all paperwork completed as of the first day of the school year (IE Background, drug screen) • Not being part of a tie-breaker if I am on academic probation for the semester or school year. • I must be enrolled in a H.P. course to be a member of the Center for Health Professions. Once in a program, I can not move to another H.P. pathway during the school year • Must abide by all rules and regulations of contracted sites. (Students may be subject to random drug screen if site requires) • We understand that because of the health/medical focus of the Center for Health Professions, students may work directly with blood and body fluids, and they will study sexually transmitted diseases. We understand that students who attend the Center for Health Professions are involved in activities at school and while at health care facilities such as hospitals that may require handling of highly confidential patient information, assisting with patient care and transporting patients in beds or wheel chairs. Students involved in such activities will be required to abide by the standards set at such facilities. Health care facilities may have rigid requirements concerning the aforementioned.
