EXAMINATION STRUCTURE UPSC Application Form: The applications can be obtained online: - Visit the website: www.upsconline.nic.in - Click on notifications icon/ link and follow the instructions - Fill the application form online - Upload the scanned documents - Verify the information furnished - Pay the application fee - Submit the application form - Print-out of the application form / confirmation of submission Application Fee : The fee can be paid online by debit card, credit card, net banking and other popular payment methods. Exam Pattern : The examination is held in three main stages – preliminary, mains and interview, and the basic structure is as follows: Preliminary Exam : The Preliminary and qualifying examination is generally in the month of June every year, with its results being announced latest by that August. Initially, students apply for the Preliminary Examination only, with those candidates qualifying for admission to the Mains having to apply separately for the Mains, in a detailed Application Form supplied to them. The prelims comprise of Objective Type, Multiple Choice Questions with Negative Marking the main exams are descriptive based. Candidates have to appear in two sections, both objective, MCQ with four options for the answer with the candidate having to choose the correct answer. The first section is of General Studies (GS) and second section being Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT). Both sections are of 200 marks and have a time duration of an hour each. Candidates need to qualify both the sections to appear for the mains examination. There is also negative marking in each wrong answer.

  2. Mains : Candidates clearing the prelims qualify to take the mains which are held around September every year. Mains are descriptive and the candidate has to appear for English and needs to choose one regional language and also appear in four papers in general studies, one essay and two optional papers. Each of these papers apart from the languages, is of 250 marks and together they total 1750 marks. The marks in English and the chosen regional language are for the purpose of qualifying and are not be counted towards the total score. Interview : Candidates successful qualifying in the UPSC are invited to the interview next March. Personality Assessment is carried out at this stage wherein the interviewer evaluates verbal communication skills, articulation, intellectual capabilities amongst other criteria. The interview is for 275 marks and the final selection and placement of the successful candidates is dependent on their ranking based on there combine performance represented by the total of their marks in the Mains and the Interview. Admit Card : The following steps details the procedure to obtain the UPSC Admit card: • Admit Card for the Prelims and Mains are issued separately. • The admit cards are usually issued between 7 to 10 days prior to the examination date. • The admit card are only available for download it from the official site and not sent by post. • Candidates are expected to be aware of the guidelines prior to downloading the admit card. • The application number and password/date of birth are required to be provided for downloading the admit card. • Candidate without admit cards will not be allowed to appear in the exam. • Identification proof document is also required to be carried by the candidates in addition to the admit card. 5. results : - The result would be declared on the official website after the completion of each phase. - Visit the official website of UPSC to check the result which will decide your future. - Enter your registration id and password - Click OK Candidates who have qualified across all the three phases are called for the training process. mail.id: info@IASCoachingInfo.com website: www.IASCoachingInfo.com
