  1. Unit Objectives To Provide a high-level Overview of AI. To Provide insights on social awareness of AI, the job opportunities that it creates in the coming years. To Provide a high-level overview of its implementation Challenges & its societal impacts. Unit Outcome The participants will get a clear view of enterprise AI. The participants will understand the potential threats, opportunities that AI has to offer.

  2. AI Defined (What is Artificial Intelligence) Academic Perspective • Artificial Intelligence is the branch of computer science that attempts to approximate the results of human reasoning by organizing and manipulating factual and heuristic knowledge. Areas of AI activity include expert systems, natural language understanding, speech recognition, vision, and robotics and the branch of Computing Science concerned with simulating aspects of human intelligence such as language comprehension and production, vision, planning.

  3. Industry Perspective • Artificial Intelligence is a computer system that can perform tasks that ordinarily require human intelligence. These artificial intelligence systems are powered by machine learning. Many of them are powered by machine learning, some of them are powered by specifically deep learning, some of them are powered by very boring things like just rules.. • Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for using the information), reasoning (using rules to reach approximate or definite conclusions) and self-correction

  4. Why AI Now? • Big Data: Today’s world is seeing a huge evolution in data. Large Unstructured data sets are handy for training AI models. • Software & Hardware Advances: Neural networks and parallel processing would be important development tools of AI because they more closely resemble the way the human brain works. • Cloud Business Models: The emergence of machine learning business models based on the use of the cloud is the single biggest reason that the field is so energized today.

  5. Why AI Now? Lack of Skilled Workforce: Artificial Intelligence models can solve complex & tedious problems accurately without skilled labor. Intelligent Automation System: The Industry needs an automated system which generally is performed by humans. AI comes to the fore by replacing human intelligence. Technology Enablement: Most Industries need a radical change in the capabilities of human actions to machine enabled actions.

  12. Social Awareness of Artificial Intelligence Artificial Intelligence has been heard by people in the past years, and nowadays in media, friends, newspapers, etc. there is not a day without hearing about it. However, the way AI perceived is very inconsistent. There is no official agreed definition we can refer to or for that matter even among AI researchers.

  13. When talking about AI, people often have a picture of robots in their minds or other humanoid beings. AI highlights the public misreading of the technology but also reveals the fear of what are the intentions of the people behind the technology. Artificial Intelligence is a tricky subject for non-experts, and people often mistakenly conflate contemporary AI.

  14. The advent of AI and automation has the potential to seriously disrupt true labor and, in many situations, it is already doing just that. • People believe that only low-skilled and manual workers will be replaced by AI and automation. • A common perception among people is that Super-intelligent computers will become better than humans at doing anything we can do.

  15. Public Policies and Awareness of AI • The purpose of AI policy is two-fold. On the one hand, governments should invest in the development and adoption of AI to secure its many benefits for the economy and society. • Governments can do this by investing in fundamental and applied research, the development of specialized AI and “AI + X” talent, digital infrastructure and related technologies, and programs.

  16. On the other hand, governments need to also respond to the economic and societal challenges brought on by advances in AI. • Automation, algorithmic bias, data exploitation, and income inequality are just a few of the many challenges that governments around the world need to develop policy solutions. • These policies include investments into skills development, the creation of new regulations and standards, and targeted efforts to remove bias from AI algorithms and data sets.

  17. It is important to note that AI policy is not just the use of AI to improve the effectiveness of government policy or reduce costs. As we will soon see, this is just one of many areas of AI policy. AI policy changes from country to country. Depending on a country’s national strengths and weaknesses, the government will choose to focus on different aspects of AI policy. Finland wants to lead the world in the application of AI technologies, while Canada wants to be the global leader in AI research and training.

  18. AI Opportunities • Growth of economy. • Significant improvement in trade. • Improvement of education. • Improvement of health standards. • Create job opportunities. • Improvement of standard of life. • Helpful in tackling biological changes. • Preserve resources.

  19. AI Challenges & Societal Impacts • . Enthusiasm & skepticism in minds. • Automation taking away jobs. • AI is a Black box. • No provability of success guarantee. • Data sensitiveness. • Improvement of standard of life. • Relevant data availability. • Non-skilled labor.
