  8. “Shameful ways” “Deception” “Distorting the Word of God”

  9. 1 Corinthians 4:2 “On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience”

  10. Conscience

  11. 2 Corinthians 4:4 “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

  12. A Spiritual Battle for Souls

  13. “Jesus Christ is Lord” Jesus Christ Lord

  14. Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

  15. “Evangelism is a spiritual activity. People reject Jesus because they are spiritually blind. Indeed, Satan has blinded them so they can’t see the truth of the gospel…

  16. …The next time you share Christ with an unbelieving friend, remember that you are talking with someone who is spiritually blind. Your role is to clearly share the gospel. God’s role is to open the person’s eyes to the truth of the gospel. Ask God for the courage you need to do your job so He can do His job through you. -P.K. Study Bible

  17. Paul and the Corinthians Part IV I. The Gospel Light (vv. 1-6) II. Jars of Clay (vv. 7-12) III. Weight of Glory (vv. 13-18)

  18. Paradoxes Paradox 1 “Hard pressed on every side, but not crushed.”

  19. Paradoxes Paradox 2 “Perplexed, but not in despair.”

  20. Paradoxes Paradox 3 “Persecuted, but not abandoned.”

  21. Paradoxes Paradox 4 “Struck down, but not destroyed.”

  22. Day By Day Day by day, and with each passing moment, Strength I find to meet my trials here; Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment, I’ve no cause for worry or for fear. He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure, Gives unto each day what He deems best, Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure, Mingling toil with peace and rest.

  23. 2 Corinthians 4:10 • “We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus” • “So that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.”

  24. 2 Corinthians 4:10 For we who are alive (Paul and Christians today)are always being given over to death (So that we do not cling to this world) for Jesus’ sake (to promote a greater kingdom) so that His life (The identity of Jesus as Savior and Lord) may be revealed in our mortal body (there is purpose in every one of our sufferings)

  25. 2 Corinthians 4:12 “so then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.”

  26. Paul and the Corinthians Part IV I. The Gospel Light (vv. 1-6) II. Jars of Clay (vv. 7-12) III. Weight of Glory (vv. 13-18)

  27. Beyond This Life

  28. It is written (in Psalm 116) I believe (that God saved me from my enemy) therefore, I have spoken

  29. Faith Leads to Salvation Leads to Testimony

  30. 2 Corinthians 4:14 “Because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence.”

  31. Not Lose Heart 2 Corinthians 4:16 • “Though outwardly we are wasting away” • “Yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day”

  32. 2 Corinthians 4:17 “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” -NIV “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.” -ESV

  33. “What Paul believed about the future had everything to do with the way he lived. Many Christians do not truly believe in a future resurrection. Or if they do, they see it as a distant, fuzzy event with no relevance for today. They don’t believe it with the intensity of Paul. Far more energy and thought is given to enhancing the health and wealth of the final twenty years of our earthly existence than to eternal existence. Clearly, we are called to focus on future resurrection and exaltation if we have any desire to live as we ought.” -Kent Hughes

  34. 2 Corinthians 4:18 “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
