Rappel Technique • The signal is “On Rappel” to let your partners know what is going on. • Getting started is the hardest part. You often have to down climb a bit to get into position. • Keep your body slightly less than perpendicular to the rock face for best front-to-back balance • Keep your legs spread about shoulder width for best side-to-side balance • Your break hand controls the rate of descent 12

At Fossil Falls • It is very steep – be tied in if near the edge. • Wear your hard hat. • Wear a shirt with collar, especially for the Dulfersitz. • You can wear light gloves if you want to. • Shirt tails and long hair can get caught – be careful. • Harnesses and rappel devices will be used. • All rappels will be belayed. • Bring the same personal stuff as you did for Robbers Roost. • Watch out for rattlesnakes 23
