  2. What is a career plan? • A career plan is a step-by-step plan of action including career information influenced by an individuals ultimate career goal • A course of action toward achieving career and educational goals • An outline of what a person wants to achieve in their work life

Components of an individual career plan • Career pathways allow individuals to explore career clusters of interest. • Entry-level work experiences help connect classroom knowledge with workplace skills • Formal assessments which are required for graduation and post-secondary entrance • Extra-curricular activities develop transferable skills, interpersonal skills, and volunteer experience • Education and training also allows development of career skills • Updates annually of the career plan will ensure that the student is on the right track!

Career Plans need to be written! • Written career plans can help assure that students will have better career direction. • Written career plans will also increase the students chances of being satisfied with their career decisions. • Written career plans help you revise your plans as needed, keep track of your progress, and stay focused on your goals!

  5. Why make a career plan? • A career plan for high school students ensures that a student will take appropriate courses in high school. • Courses can be selected based on career and educational goals.

  6. Course of Study • Each of the following courses of study will prepare the student for post-secondary opportunities: • College Tech Prep (CTP) • College Prep/College Tech Prep (CPCT) • College Prep (CP)

  9. A final note… • When you set your Ultimate Career Goal, you will need to follow an action plan to reach that goal. Once you have achieved your Ultimate Career Goal, it is very likely you will then change careers several times, moving higher and higher! • Don’t forget to explore career trends and job market data when reviewing your career plan and setting your ultimate career goal!
