Marine Engine Testing and Emissions Laboratory (METEL) Maine Maritime Academy DOT UTC Projects • Project 1: Field Testing of Diesel/Glycerin Emulsion fuels as a low cost, low emissions, drop-in fuel for marine diesels. This fuel is being developed and commercialized by the startup SeaChange Group LLC(SCG). Development of a Bridge Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) • Project 2: At Sea testing of a hydrogen injection system on MMA Workboat for emissions reduction. This system is being developed by Global Marine Consulting (GMC). • Project 3: Development and engine testing of Forest Biomass fuel derivatives being developed at UMaine’s Chemical Engineering Department and Forest Bioproducts Research Institute. • Project 4: Development a thermoelectric exhaust generator (TEG) heat recovery system for marine diesels engine using current advances in thermoelectric materials , Collaborating with Startup Thermoelectric Power Systems (TPS)

Training of the workforce in the use/handling of these fuels. Bridge CEMS training and exposure.

Run Blended fuel performance tests and evaluate results prior to Vessel testing • Deliverables Year 1 Interim report on Results of Task 1,2,3 and also periodic updates to RITA and DOT as required.
