  2. FRATERNITY • At one point in time there are 18 million containers on the high seas, twenty six percent emanating from Shanghai. Ninety percent of the goods consumed in modern society at time or another was in a container. • This structure is made of eleven steel containers and stands about 20 meters tall and 11 meters at its three corner base. It is an abstract collage of solid form designed so every part is linked to every other part providing support and contributing to the capacity of the work to stand solid as a unified abstract object. • The concept of mutual support, the use of the container as the material or media for the sculpture makes direct reference to its utilitarian function but changes its concept and scale to allow it to become something different than what it is. There is a system of interdependence in the structure of the containers which becomes a metaphor for the interlocking and interdependent character of the international container system. The object is used to create something more than what it is in itself.

  3. FRATERNITY • The placement of the logos onto the surface of the containers refers to the labor unions and companies which are an integral part of the production and distribution process. This intricate interlocking of purpose, benefit and function to create an economic whole, is symbolized in the sculpture again.
