  2. INTRODUCTION • Today I will tell you about elephants. • Elephants are used for a lot of things. • Sit back and relax and listen to my PowerPoint! Hi everybody! My name is Elliot! I will explain about myself. I am an elephant!

  3. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS • Elephants have big ears. • They have small eyes. • They also have big feet! • Elephants have long tusks. • Also very long trunks! This is a picture of things that are made out of elephant tusks.

  4. WHERE DO ELEPHANTS LIVE? • Elephants live on grassy land, in dry places and in forests. • Theyalso live in Africa and Asia. • They can live in deserts but not really hot places such as Libya. This picture shows an elephant that lives in Africa.

  5. WHAT DO ELEPHANTS EAT? • Elephants usually eat leaves, grasses, fruits, roots, and tree bark. • Elephants get their food by using their trunk. • With their trunk, they pick things that are high up in the trees. These pictures are what elephants eat in daily lives.

  6. HOW DOES THE ELEPHANT PROTECT ITSELF? • Elephants snarl, use their trunk as a punching arm and stomp. • Animals are usually scared of elephants because they are huge! This picture shows a mother hiding the baby under her body. He might be scared that the mother might step on him!

  7. WHAT IS THE ELEPHANT’S LIFE CYCLE? • Elephants are first born and called infants. • Next, they are a young adult. They are not really an adult but are becoming one. • Then, they become an adult. • Finally, they die. • Elephants live to be about thirteen to fourteen years of age. • They have babies up until they are around fifty years old.

  9. HOW DO ELEPHANTS HELP NATURE? • Elephants can provide water by digging water holes in dry riverbeds. • When elephants move through the high grass, they provide food for the birds. This is a picture of elephants drinking water.

  10. DO ELEPHANTS RUN? • Elephants can move very fast but they are not running. • The footprints are the same when they are walking or running. This is a picture of an elephant’s foot.

  11. HOW DO ELPHANTS USE THEIR TRUNKS? • Elephants don’t drink with their trunks but use them as a hose. • Also their trunks are very flexible. • If elephants know that they are in danger, they raise their trunks.

  12. HOW DO ELEPHANTS USE THEIR TUSKS? • Elephant tusks are used to dig water, salt, and roots. • Also adult’s tusks can grow to about 18 cm long.

  13. WHY ARE EARS IMPORTANT FOR ELEPHANTS? • Flapping ears are very important for temperature regulation. • On hot days, elephants will flap their ears, creating a slight breeze. • Elephant’s ears are made of very thin layers of skin.

  14. Elephants cry, laugh, and have incredible memories. • Female elephants don’t have tusks.

  15. Are Elephants Endangered? • Elephants are endangered. • People kill them because they can make weapons out of their tusks. • They use their skin to make coats. • People also use ivory from elephant’s tusks.
