As a deaf graduate of Ogden, Utah's Deaf School in 1984, I've experienced both the ease of high school and the rigor of college at CSUN. While I enjoy the college environment, I face significant challenges, such as the need to read extensively, write research papers, and engage with my instructors on a whiteboard. My interpreter is vital during these intense learning moments, especially when preparing for tough tests. This article elaborates on the unique struggles and triumphs faced by deaf students in higher education.
