Workshop context • Need for deployment activities to achieve: • EU-wide interoperability • Enhanced ICT innovation (esp. with SMEs) • Large-scale user acceptance and validation • Critical mass for efficiency and effectiveness • In the EU context this is done through R&D programmes (FP 7); Competitiveness and Innovation (CIP ICT PSP); Structural Funds, national programmes, etc

  6. i2010 initiative ICT in CIP • Aims at accelerating the development ofa sustainable, competitive, innovative & inclusive Information Society by: • developing the single information space • ensuring wider uptake & better use of ICT • enabling an inclusive Information Society The aim isto drive forward innovation through the adoption& best use of ICTs ICT Policy Support objectives POLICY FRAMEWORK ICTPSP: a financial instrument supporting Policy through: • Pilot projects &Thematic networks (including best practice actions) • Policy analyses, development & coordination with participating countries • Promotion, communication, information sharing & dissemination ICTPSP builds on the experience of eTEN, eContent+ & Modinis

Current CIP modalities • Pilot A Goal:service pilots with interoperability as the central theme aiming to demonstrate a “federated” solution andborderless operation of national systems Outcome:to implement an open, common interoperablesolution with results widely disseminated and available to all memberstates • Pilot B Goal:a first implementation of an ICT based innovative servicecarried out under realistic conditions Outcome:operational pilot service demonstrating significant impactpotential and the engagement of a complete value-chain of stakeholders

  8. Current CIP modalities • Thematic Networks Goal:to bring together relevant stakeholders, expertise and facilities to support the implementation of Information Society policies using ICT. Clear objectives and measurable outcomes (not a generic exploratory or support activity) Outcome:to prepare future pilot activities, exchange good practices and to develop new policy implementation schemes.

  9. ICTPSP eInclusion 2007 Themes • Type B Pilots Overcoming fragmentation for scaling up & investment; high visibility; economies of scale; replication; value chain cooperation. Building on existing initiatives. Aging Well Pilots • Independent and healthy living • From minor impairments to chronic disease monitoring(dementia, cognitive) • From daily living assistance to integrated, efficient health a and social care • Deliverables: interoperable services, common specifications, cost-effectiveness, user acceptance
