  1. Short writing task questions test the students’ ability to write a short piece of writing, like Notice, Message or Diary Entry. These questions will assess students’ skills of expressing ideas in clear and grammatically correct English, their abilities of presenting ideas coherently and concisely. They will also assess writing a clear description, writing a clear account of events, expanding notes into a piece of writing, trans-coding information from one form to another while using a style appropriate for a Notice, Message or Diary Entry.

  2. NOTICE A notice is a very important form of written communication used to convey information About functions, events and occasions, used by individuals and organisations to announce Something that has happened or is about to happen. Notices are generally displayed on the notice boards of schools,colleges, offices and various other departments.

  3. TYPES OF NOTICE • Notice for meeting • Notice for events like competition/tours/celebration/annual sports meet etc. • Notice for lost and found • Notice for change in name/residence/company/bank account etc. • Notice for appeal/warning

  4. Notice Points to be Kept in Mind An individual should keep the following points in hislher mind while writing a notice The language used be lucid and must be written in third person. Tense from generally used in either present tense or future tense. The entire content of the notice is placed in a box. Adhere to the word limit (if given in the question paper).

  7. CLASS ACTIVITY • Draft a notice informing all the participants of the In- Service Course to come and celebrate the New Year Fiesta on 1 January 2014 at the Hotel SDC Pride. You may ask them to present their programme too. Invent necessary details, if needed. HOME ASSIGNMENT • Your school is going to organise a cultural evening in the honour of Smt. VasundharaRaje the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, on 31st December 2013,who will be the Chief Guest on the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the KVS. As the head of the cultural committee of the school, draft a notice giving all the necessary details.
