  1. ECADLaboratory

  2. Overview The Electronics Computer Aided Design (ECAD) Laboratory was founded in 1994 with the financial support of the European Community under the TEMPUS SJEP Project 3038. It is a Faculty Laboratory and works with all departments of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Technology.

  3. Mission The Laboratory is a National information and training centre in the fields of Electronics and Microelectronics design and prototyping, Open and Distance Learning.

  4. Main Activities A substantial amount of scientific research activities, Integrated Circuits and System design, undergraduate and Ph.D. students education is carried out here. In its activity the laboratory integrates the experience and knowledge of lecturers, experts and students from the TechnicalUniversity of Sofia as well as from leading scientific research and manufacturing organisations in the field of Microelectronics in Bulgaria.

Cooperation Activities in BG • The Laboratory keeps tight contacts with Bulgarian Microelectronics companies: • The Institute of Microelectronics– Development of Design Kit compatible with IME’s CMOS technology; • National Science Fund,Ministry of Education and Science– Analysis and Design of Precise CMOS OpAmps; • AMIS - Bulgaria– Analysis and Design of CMOS ASICs; • InfoSemiconductor– Analysis and Design of CMOS ASICs; • Innovative Microsystems– Service, Consultant and other Activities in Electronic and Microelectronic CAD Systems Applications; • Melexis– Design, Adjustment and Maintenance of Design Systems; • Sigma-Delta- Design, Adjustment and Maintenance of Design Systems; • Silway Semiconductors- Service, Consultant and other Activities in Electronic and Microelectronic CAD Systems Applications; • Sky Gate– Design of ASICs for Power Supply of GaAs Chips; • EPIQ, DMN Technologies, Fab-less, Haemimont – Smartcom, etc.

International Cooperation Activities • The ECAD Laboratory was the coordinating institution for the following successfully accomplished Joint European Projects: • TEMPUS SJEP 03038-92– Development of Professionally Accredited Pilot Modular-Based Degree Course in Electronic Engineering Geared to Answer the Needs of the Bulgarian Industry; • TEMPUS JEN 03038-BG-95- Development of Professionally Accredited Pilot Modular-Based Degree Course in Electronic Engineering Geared to Answer the Needs of the Bulgarian Industry; • TEMPUS Complementary Measured Project 01160-95– Feasibility Study for Implementation of Computerised Administration Management System in Bulgarian Universities; • INCO COPERNICUS - SYTIC 960170-98– Promotion of System Design Training and Information Centres in CCE/NIS. • REASON–REsearchAndTraining Action forSystemOn Chip DesigN–IST – 2000 – 30193.

International Cooperation Activities (cont.) • The ECAD Laboratory was the coordinating institution for the following successfully accomplished Joint European Projects: • Resent Projects: • Contract No. Д-002-126/15.12.2008 – “Investigation and Design of Мicroelectronics Models of Protein Hydrogen Bonding Networks”; • Contract No. DUNK-01/3/2010- ”Research Center on innovations and transfer of knowledge in the field of micro-/nanotechnologies, materials, energy efficiency and virtual engineering” • BG051PO001-3.1.07-0048 - “Curriculum update at FETT, FTK and MTF"

  10. ECAD Laboratory Equipment • The equipment is: • SUN Fire V240 server – 2 • SUN Blade 100 – 6 • X-terminals SUN Ray 1g - 16 • PCs – Quad core - 10 • peripheral devices - printers, plotters, scanners, etc.

  12. CAD Software • Unique for Bulgaria software is installed and used successfully for the carrying out of the main activities. Three of the leading Microelectronics software packages in the World: • CADENCE(for functional and layout top-down design); • Mentor Graphics(for functional and layout top-down design); • SYNOPSYS(for functional digital circuit design). • Besides, different software packages like SoftMEMSXilinx,Coventor, OrCAD, etc. are also used.

Design Activities • The main activity of the Laboratory is aimed at the design of ASICs - CMOS and BiCMOS, with the most up-to-date European technologies: • AMS 0.8 m BiCMOS • AMS 0.35m 3 Metal Si CMOS; • AMS 0.35m 4 Metal Si CMOS; • AMS 0.35m 3 Metal SiGe BiCMOS; • AMS 0.35m 4 Metal SiGe BiCMOS.
