Indications • 6 months to 24 years old • Those who • Live with or care for infants younger than 6 months • Health care or emergency medical personnel • Pregnant women • 25-64 years with chronic medical conditions or weakened immune system • As available healthy adults 25-64 and those older than 65
Contraindications • Allergy to: • Previous influenza vaccine • Eggs, egg products, thimerosal, gentamicin, polymyxin, neomycin, gelatin, latex • Fever or acute illness • Age less than 6 months • History Guillain-Barre syndrome

Vaccine Considerations • Supplied in pre-filled unit-dose syringes or multi-dose vials • Storage: 35-46° F (2-8° C) • Can be administered at same time as any other vaccine
Dosing • Age 6-35 months: 0.25 mL • Age 3 and older: 0.5 mL • Age 6 mo-9 yr: 2 doses 3-4 weeks apart • Age 10 and older: 1 dose sufficient • NOTE: different manufacturers have different age approvals
Procedure • Obtain and verify vaccine • Colorless to pale yellow • Clear to slightly cloudy • Ensure proper dose • Select appropriate pre-filled syringe • Draw appropriate volume from multi-dose vial • Cleanse top with alcohol pad prior to drawing up • Ensure VAR complete
Procedure • Identify appropriate muscle • Deltoid • Lateral thigh for small children • Cleanse area with alcohol or similar • 21-25 gauge needle • 1-1½ inches • ⅝-¾ inch for those less than 60kg
Procedure • Insert needle 90° into appropriate muscle • Consider aspiration • If attempted and get blood on aspiration, stop, withdraw, and discard without administering vaccine and start over • Inject vaccine into muscle in one quick, steady manner • Remove needle & syringe disposing in sharps container • Bandage as needed
