  2. www.fepo.ru Background • The OIIO project is based on the principles of the “Internet-Exam in the Sphere of Professional Education”, developed under the guidance of Prof. Vladimir Navodnov • Internet-Exam has been conducted in Russiasince 2005 Internet • Over 8 million students have participated in the Internet-Exam

  3. Open International Internet-Olympiad • conducted since 2008 • Over 350 HEIs from 18 countries (Russia, China, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Rumania, Poland, and others) participated in the Internet Olympiadsin 2010 • organized by the International Committee of Internet-Olympiads (co-Chairs: Prof. V. Navodnov (Russia), Prof. A. Domoshnitsky (Israel)) in collaboration with the Education Quality Monitoring and Research Institute (Russia)

The Open International Internet-Olympiad is an international multidisciplinary academic contest in which students from different countries participate via the Internet. • to provide an opportunity fora wide-scale assessment of student learning outcomes • to provide information for institutions about the effectiveness of teaching and learners’ support • to serve as a benchmarking tool for comparative research in the national and global contexts The main goals of the OIIO project

  5. Stages of the Internet-Olympiad Institutional Round 1 • Carried out by HEIs at any time within the stipulated time period • The number of participants is not limited • No external observers.

  6. Stages of the Internet-Olympiad Regional Round 2 • Conducted online in “basic” HEIs in each Federal District of Russia • Each participating HEI can nominate up to three students to contest in each educational profile/subject field.

  7. Stages of the Internet-Olympiad Round 3 National / International (in Mathematics) • Held in several “basic HEIs” in different countries • Pen-and-paper (not computerized) testing • Personal attendance of participants

  18. Why APQN? Three years of implementing the OIIO initiative allow considering the project: • an effective tool of identifying best practices in achieving excellence in professional education • an efficient instrument of benchmarking for comparative research in the national and international contexts • a promising way to provide equal access to higher education opportunities to all social categories of students Extending the OIIO experience to the Asia-Pacific region will contribute to the enhancement of the quality of higher education in the region, as well as the visibility of different national higher education systems on the international arena.
